POCKETFUL OF PIECES
(Artist's Statement)
In my studio, there is always a collection of small found objects that have interested my eye at one time or another not for their function but for the mere suggestion of something else like shape, color, surface, or form. They are about the elements and principles of design but they can start a “brain-storm” in a minute. This time I am paying attention to the small object and making a series of pins that work with these fragments and narrative.
Fragments and pieces are about a time and the feeling you have when you find them. They allow you to imagine different stories. Composing a day at the beach, a camping trip, catching a fish become big moments woven into a surreal, abstracted, overlapping tall-tale. Using strong and bold forms, this series of pins works with small vignettes suggested by either natural or man-made fragments.
