I can trace the inspiration for designs I use in my art to the interiors of churches I attended at a child. I always was fascinated by the embroidery on the vestments, the curving and interlocking wood designs on the ceilings and the stained glass windows. I have taken many of the remembered forms and have translated them into my art. I want to create a visual language from the geometry within my work - a language that is intellectually stimulating. Art for me is belief made visible. I want my work to provide a meaning to life. I believe the poetic is a legitimate concern in the contemporary world. I demonstrate the possibility of belief and transcendence. I create large woven wall pieces from banal materials: tarpaper, dried pigments, and buttermilk. The interactions of these common elements produces art works that are elegantly meditative and spiritual, reminiscent of cathedral windows. The forms range from the strictly geometric to the architectural. The sparkling pigments enliven the matte black surface of the tarpaper, creating the illusion of light from within.
